Professor Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, emphasized that if the Commission fails, it will be a collective failure, not the Commission`s alone.
"The Commission is not a separate entity—it includes all of us. So if we fail in any area, it is a failure shared by everyone, not just the Commission," he said.
Riaz made these remarks on Tuesday during the 14th day of the second phase of discussions between the National Consensus Commission and political parties, held at the Doel Multipurpose Hall of the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Addressing political parties, he stated, "The responsibility entrusted to us also lies with you—as political parties. We are simply participants in the process."
He repeatedly urged all political parties to come together through discussion and stressed the importance of reaching a decision in the coming days. He called for a unified position on key issues as soon as possible.
Tuesday`s discussion began with the unfinished topic of a bicameral parliament, which was first raised in the previous session. The session was also expected to reach a final consensus on the method of electing women’s reserved seats in Parliament.
Representatives from 30 political parties attended the day’s dialogue, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizens’ Party (NCP), Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), and Gonosanghati Andolon.
The session was presided over by Professor Ali Riaz, Chairman of the Commission, and moderated by Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (National Consensus Commission). Other notable Commission members present were Justice Emdadul Haque, Badiul Alam Majumdar, Iftekharuzzaman, Mohammad Ayub Mia, and Safar Raj Hossain.
