The Bangladesh National Liberation Council (Jatiya Mukti Council) has strongly criticized meetings between acting US Ambassador to Bangladesh Tracy N. Jacobson and leaders of political parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and National Citizens’ Party (NCP), calling them a breach of diplomatic norms.
In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, August 13, BNLC Secretary Foyzul Hakim demanded an immediate cessation of what he described as the US ambassador’s political interventions in Bangladesh.
He said, “The US ambassador’s political activities in Bangladesh must stop, as they go beyond the limits of diplomatic etiquette.”
Referring to the July 24 mass uprising, Foyzul Hakim stated that the movement not only sought the removal of fugitive accused Sheikh Hasina and her government, charged with human rights violations, but also signaled strong resistance against the influence of imperialist powers such as India, the United States, the European Union, and China in Bangladesh’s internal politics.
Foyzul Hakim further criticized Bangladesh’s ruling-class political parties, accusing them of compromising national interests over the past 54 years by following foreign powers. He cited the current government led by Sheikh Hasina as the “worst example” of such subservience.
The statement concluded by urging forces from the student, labor, and public movements of last year’s uprising to organize nationwide resistance against what BNLC called the “new arrangements of imperialist-capitalist interests,” emphasizing the need for a broad-based struggle to defend the rights of workers, farmers, and the nation.
