Five persons, including expelled Awami League leader Helena Jahangir, will have their verdict announced today (Monday) in a case brought up at the Pallabi police station in the capital on allegations of fraud and extortion against them.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain's court will announce the verdict on Monday. Earlier, on March 14, after presenting the arguments of the prosecutor and the defendant, the court fixed the date of pronouncement of verdict.
On August 2, 2021, the Bhola district representative of Jayayatra TV, Abdur Rahman Tuhin filed the case against 5 people including Helena Jahangir at Pallabi police station.
The complaint in the case says, "Helena Jahangir took 54,000 taka from Abdur Rahman Tuhin of Bhola district promising him to appoint as a local correspondent of Jayayatra TV." Rahman worked as a reporter for several months but did not receive any salary. On the other hand, the television authorities used to take three thousand taka from him every month.
On the previous night, a RAB team arrested her after a three-and-a-half-hour raid at her Gulshan-2 house. Foreign liquor, walkie-talkie sets, foreign currency, casino equipment and skins of deer and kangaroo were recovered.
