A new political party, which will be led by students and young people, is on the way.
The news was shared by Hasnat Abdullah, the leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and Sargis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizens Committee, on Wednesday, February 5, via their verified Facebook accounts.
In their posts, Hasnat Abdullah and Sargis wrote,
“A new political party is coming, led by students and youth! We want to know what kind of party you want, and we want to form the party in that very shape. Share your opinion through the form in the comments. It will only take 5 minutes to fill out the form.”
The post included a link to a form titled “Your Vision for a New Bangladesh.”
In the form, they are asking people for suggestions on what the new political party`s name and symbol should be, as well as what they expect from the party.
Later in the day, during a press conference, the leaders announced a week-long campaign to collect public support for the new party.
They are aiming to gather the opinions of at least one lakh (100,000) people and have invited everyone to suggest a name and symbol for the party.
At the press conference in Banglamotor, Dhaka, Nasiruddin Patowary, the leader of the National Citizens Committee, confirmed that the new party, which will be led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee, is set to launch in February.
He also added that anyone wishing to join the party as an advisor would need to step down from their government positions.
Nasiruddin Patowary said,
“We will reach out to one lakh people. With the slogan ‘Your Vision for a New Bangladesh,’ the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee have begun an online and offline campaign to form the new political party. Through this campaign, we aim to understand the expectations of the people regarding the new party.”
Hasnat Abdullah, the leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, also spoke during the conference, highlighting the challenges ahead:
“Although we managed to remove fascism during the July movement, it still persists in some areas. We have not fully achieved victory. Political parties and the political structure have failed to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people. With the spirit after 2024 and keeping in mind the hopes and desires of the people, we have decided to form a new party.”
This new political initiative, led by the younger generation, has created a lot of buzz.
Many people are excited to see what kind of party will emerge, and how it will change the political landscape in Bangladesh.
