Reminiscing the magical Munna

From 1987 until 1997, Munna played for the Bangladesh National football team. He served as the captain of the national team thrice in his career. Under his captaincy the country achieved 4-nation Tiger Trophy in Myanmar, the first-ever international trophy won by the country. Munna’s leadership also won Bangladesh a place in the 1995 SAF games, as the runner-up, hailed as huge feather on the cap for Bangladesh.

The iconic footballer rose to fame in 1982 during a match between Narayanganj and Bangladesh National team. He displayed outstanding skills as a defender and paved his way to the hearts of all speactators. Since then the limelight never moved from Munna.

Later in his sports career, Munnna served as the manager of Abahani Club. His fees as manager caught the eyes of everyone and was the talk of the town. A hefty amount of 20 lakh Taka was remunerated to him in 1991 for the position. Munna’s guidance made Abahani win the Dhaka League 5 times and the Federation cup three times.

All these series of historic wins and stellar football skills has cemented Munna’s name in the history of football in the subcontinent for many years to come! He was the finest Bangladesh ever witnessed.
