The Bangladesh national football team, led by captain Jamal Bhuiyan, is on its way back to Dhaka aboard a Bangladesh Air Force special flight after being stranded in Kathmandu due to anti-government protests.

The players, along with journalists covering the matches, completed immigration formalities at Tribhuvan International Airport on Thursday morning before boarding the flight. They are expected to land in Dhaka by 3 pm.

Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Nepal, Shafiqul Rahman, and several embassy officials were present at the airport to oversee the team’s departure. The repatriation effort was coordinated by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), the Bangladeshi Embassy in Kathmandu, and the government of Bangladesh.

In a Facebook post, the country’s Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan wrote that the government had dispatched an Air Force aircraft to bring the stranded team safely back home.

The Bangladesh football team arrived in Nepal on 3 September to play two FIFA friendly matches. The first, held on 6 September, ended in a goalless draw. The second match, scheduled for 9 September, was canceled due to protests and unrest in Nepal.
