Tanzid Hasan Tamim is determined to secure his spot in the national team. The 20-year-old batter has earned his place in the team for the first time, replacing the senior Tamim, Tamim Iqbal.
The Bangladesh national cricket team is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka on August 27th for this year’s Asia Cup, with some matches also taking place in Pakistan, reports UNB.
As the Tigers prepare for this event, Tanzid addressed the media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday, expressing his ambition to perform well in the national team and discussing his source of inspiration.
"I grew up watching Tamim Iqbal`s playing," he said. "He is an idol for me. I will give my best to cement my place in the team."
Tanzid also shared that having a similar name to Tamim Iqbal adds an extra layer of connection to his play, which inspired him in his early cricketing days.
"I try to learn from watching his game sense," Tanzid stated. "I aim to grasp how he controls and manages different situations within the game."
Recently, Tanzid participated in the ACC Emerging Cup in Sri Lanka, playing four matches and scoring three fifties. He was the standout performer for the Bangladesh team.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recently announced a 17-member team for the Asia Cup, with Tanzid being the youngest member. He is expected to open the innings alongside Litton Das.
If Tanzid can prove his worth and meet the team`s requirements, he stands a good chance of making it to the World Cup in India later this year.
