In the capital city alone, non-biodegradable plastic waste has gone up more than 3.5 times from 178 tons per day in 2005 to 646 tons per day in 2020.
According to the World Bank, plastic pollution is the second-worst in the world in the rivers Ganges, Padma and Jamuna that flow through India and Bangladesh. These carry 73,000 tonnes of toxic plastic waste every day.
