Three tax inspectors have been temporarily suspended by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for publicly tearing transfer orders and displaying what has been described as `defiant behavior` amid ongoing protests.
The suspensions were confirmed in separate orders issued today (Thursday), signed by NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan.
The suspended officers are Lokman Ahmed, Tax Inspector of Tax Zone-2, Dhaka; Ruhul Amin, Tax Inspector of Tax Zone-6, Dhaka; and Md Abdullah-Al-Mamun, Tax Inspector of the Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit.
According to the NBR orders, these officials openly tore the transfer order issued on June 22 for five deputy commissioners of taxes.
Their actions were deemed as a show of support for those defying the transfer order and a breach of discipline.
The suspensions have been carried out under Section 39(1) of the Government Service Act, 2018. The officials have been designated as special officers on duty and will be entitled to subsistence allowances during the suspension period. The order takes immediate effect in the public interest.
Earlier, 14 officials were suspended on Tuesday and 8 more on Wednesday for similar reasons. With the latest actions, a total of 27 NBR officials have now been suspended for their involvement in protests demanding the reversal of the ordinance that seeks to dissolve the NBR.
