Akhtar Hossain, the Secretary General of the National Citizens Committee, has called for the declaration of the July Uprising to be read out before January 15.

He made this statement during the "March for Unity" event held on Tuesday, December 31, at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.

Speaking at the rally, Akhtar Hossain highlighted that the people of Bangladesh are eager for change.

"The people of this country want a new Bangladesh. They want a new constitution and reforms," he said.

He also reminded the crowd that when leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement announced plans to read the July Uprising declaration, the interim government had promised to coordinate with all political parties to present it.

Akhtar Hossain described this as a major win for the student movement.

He went on to say, “I want to tell the interim government that they must deliver the July Uprising declaration by January 15, without any delay.” Akhtar stressed that the new constitution would be formed through the upcoming national parliament, made up of elected representatives.

Concluding his speech, Akhtar Hossain explained that the upcoming election will be a Constituent Assembly election.

"The people’s chosen representatives will be the ones to amend the constitution," he said.

"The people of Bangladesh have many demands, and it is the responsibility of those who win the next election to fulfill these demands."
