The government will increase allowance for disabled people in the future, Social Welfare Minister and heroic freedom fighter Alhaj Nuruzzaman Ahmed said on Saturday.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul have been praised globally for the work they have done for disabled," he said while inaugurating a 25-bed 'Shanti Nibas' (Peace Home) in a function at Lalmonirhat Government Shishu Paribar as the chief guest, reports BSS.
Lalmonirhat District Social Services Office of the Department of Social Services (DSS) organized the function.
Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Md. Abu Zafar, Lalmonirhat District Awami League General Secretary and District Council Administrator Advocate Md. Matiar Rahman, Project Director of the DSS Mohd. Sadiqul Haque, its Rangpur Divisional Director Md. Abdul Motaleb Sarker and Deputy Director for Rangpur Md. Abdul Matin were present on the occasion.
The minister said employment arrangements and accommodation will be created for disabled population so that they become self-reliant and do not remain dependent on anyone.
"Only the above-60 elderly citizens can live in the 'Shanti Nibas' and resident children of the Government Shishu Paribar will take care of elderly citizens like their (children's) grandparents," he said.
