Chittagong City Branch Awami League Organizing Secretary Noman Al Mahmud has been nominated as Awami League's candidate in the Chittagong-8 constituency by-election to be held on April 27.
He was nominated as the Awami League candidate at the party's Parliamentary Nomination Board meeting at the Prime Minister's official residence Ganabhaban on Saturday morning. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
Currently Chittagong City Committee Organizing Secretary Noman Al Mahmud has been involved in Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League politics for almost five decades. He once served as the former president of Chittagong city branch Jubo League, former education and library affairs secretary of Chittagong city Chhatra League.
MP Jasdar leader Moin Uddin Khan Badal died on November 7, 2019. Badal used to vote in Awami League's boat symbol. When the seat became vacant due to his death, Awami League leader Moshalem Uddin became the member of parliament in the by-election on January 13, 2020. However, when Moslem Uddin died of cancer on February 5 this year, the seat became vacant. Noman Al Mahmud was nominated in the by-election of this seat.
