After the launch of Bangabandhu-1 Satellite in 2018, the discussion on Bangabandhu Satellite-2 has been ongoing for a long time. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has now provided new insights on when Bangladesh’s second satellite will be launched into space.
“We are now preparing for the second satellite,” she stated.
On Sunday, June 2, during the award ceremony of the video contest titled “Amar Chokhe Bangabandhu” at the Ganabhaban, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke about the preparations.
“When we came to power in 1996, we emphasized computer education. At that time, everything was analog. When we came to power for the second time, we declared that we would make Digital Bangladesh. Now, we have a satellite,” the Prime Minister said.
Addressing critics, she remarked, “Many ask what the need for the satellite was. There are some people in our country who do not like anything. Whatever we do, they question its necessity. They say the same about the metro rail and expressway, calling it a waste of money. They have a negative mindset. Yet, when we build these, they enjoy using them.”
Prime Minister Hasina highlighted the transformation of the nation, saying, “A nation of beggars has no dignity. After 1975, we became a beggar nation. When we went abroad, hearing ‘Bangladesh’ evoked responses about famine, storms, tidal waves, and floods. We were objects of pity.”
She continued, “On Emirates flights, I used to see collections for children where Bangladesh’s name was mentioned. It hurt my self-respect. After coming to power, I ensured that this would no longer be the case. We have secured food security and education. We have declared that we will not beg from anyone.”
