Bangladesh ranks 163 in World Press Freedom Index

Bangladesh has fallen by one step in World Press Freedom Index. This year Bangladesh is ranked 163 with a score of 35.31, which is the lowest in South Asia.

In the World Press Freedom Index of 2022, Bangladesh came in at position 162. Bangladesh's score at that time was 36.63. 

Reporters Without Borders (RSF), a France-based organization working on media freedom around the world, released the index today. 

This year, Bhutan is on top among South Asian countries with the 90th position. Nepal is ranked 95th in the second position in South Asia. Maldives ranks 100th, Sri Lanka ranks 135th, Pakistan ranks 150th, Afghanistan ranks 152nd and India ranks 161st.

This year, Norway is at the top of the World Free Media Index with a score of 95.18. Ireland is in second position with a score of 89.91. Denmark, with third position, has a score of 89.48.

In creating the World Free Media Index, RSF mainly considers 5 factors. These are political context, legal infrastructure, economic context, socio-cultural context and security.

This year, North Korea is at the bottom of the world free media index with a score of 21.72. The score of Vietnam is 24.58. China's score is 22.97, second from the bottom.
