National Security Adviser to the interim government, Khalilur Rahman, stated on Sunday that Bangladesh will not participate in any proxy conflict with Myanmar in behalf of the United States under the guise of a "humanitarian corridor." He dismissed ongoing speculation in the country as baseless misinformation and rumors.
He made the remarks while speaking as a special guest at a seminar on Rohingya repatriation held at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) auditorium in Dhaka. The seminar was jointly organized by BUP and the Armed Forces Division.
Addressing the issue of the so-called humanitarian corridor in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, he clarified that no such discussion or agreement has taken place. "We have not held any talks regarding a humanitarian corridor, nor has any decision or understanding been reached with any party," he asserted.
He further explained that the term "humanitarian corridor" is being misrepresented. “What was discussed was a channel for delivering humanitarian aid to Rakhine. A corridor and a channel are not the same. If such a channel exists, it should be operated under United Nations supervision, strictly for the delivery of relief and food,” he said.
Reiterating Bangladesh`s diplomatic stance, Rahman emphasized that the country respects Myanmar’s sovereignty and has no intention of fueling further instability. “We are assuring Myanmar that Bangladesh does not seek to create any new unrest in their territory,” he added.
