A tragic incident occurred late Friday night in Panchagarh, where a Bangladeshi man was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) while attempting to cross the border.

The incident took place in the Vithorgarh area of Amarkhana Union.

The deceased, identified as 38-year-old Al Amin, was from the Haribhasa Union in Panchagarh, and was the son of Suruj Ali, a resident of Zinnat Para.

According to reports, Al Amin, along with several other young men, went to the Vithorgarh area, located under the Nilhaphamari 56 BGB Battalion’s jurisdiction, on Friday night.

They had planned to bring cattle from India.

As they tried to cross the border into India near Main Pillar 744 and Sub-Pillar 7, BSF personnel from the 46th Battalion’s Bhatarpara camp opened fire on them.

The following morning, locals discovered Al Amin’s body around 50 yards inside Indian territory at Abalupura.

Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Mohammad Badaruddin, the commanding officer of the Nilhaphamari 56 BGB Battalion, confirmed that a flag meeting between the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and BSF has been requested to arrange for the body’s transfer.
