The owners and workers of bus and freight vehicles have called a strike starting Friday 6 am due to a hike in the price of diesel and kerosene oil.
According to representatives of this sector, they are not able to cope with the current prices, on top of that, authorities have decided the rise the price.
The government has increased the price of diesel and kerosene by Tk 15 per liter from midnight Wednesday. According to transport sources, the leaders of various transport sector organizations have met among themselves after the new price of fuel oil came into effect.
Following these meetings, it was decided to call a strike on transportation of all goods till the announcement of not increasing the fare is withdrawn.
The largest association of bus owners in Bangladesh is Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association (BRTOA).
Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of the organization, told the media that BRTOA had made a proposal to increase bus fares in 2019. That decision was not implemented due to Covid-19 situation.
On the contrary the price of fuel has been hiked by the government. Under such circumstances, we have decided to halt all transportation services.
