Standing passengers barred, regular fares from Wednesday

All modes of transport will ply roads as the coronavirus restrictions will be lifted Wednesday (August 11).

The cabinet division issued a gazette notification on August 8 relaxing the Covid-19 restrictions aiming to keep the wheel of economy moving considering the overall situation in the country.

According to the gazette, all the public and private offices will reopen since August 11.

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) announced a set of guidelines for transporting passengers on Monday.

BRTA directives

1. Buses will not be allowed to carry more passengers than capacity and transport standing passengers. The local government, owners and workers organisations should discuss among themselves and then field only half the fleet of buses in any particular area.

2. Public transport will resume the previous fare list (No 60% extra fare).

3. Passengers, drivers, supervisors, conductors, helpers, cleaners and ticket sellers must wear masks. Masks and sanitiser will also be provided for them.

4. Vehicles must also be cleaned at the start and end of every trip using disinfectant. Transport owners have also been ordered to provide disinfectant for spraying on passenger handbags and luggage.

5. Public transport must also maintain COVID health protocols or face legal action, according to the notice.

The BRTA directives will be effective till further notice.
