You may go, you may talk to a diplomat, but why the secrecy: Rizvi to NCP

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has questioned the secrecy surrounding the recent Cox’s Bazar visit by leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP), suggesting it has raised public suspicions.

“You have every right to travel and meet diplomats if you wish. But why the secrecy?” Rizvi said while speaking to reporters on Thursday morning after visiting the family of Masuma Begum, a staff member of Milestone School who died in a tragic incident in Uttara’s Diabari area.

Rizvi, who was accompanied by a delegation from “Amra BNP Poribar,” said the pattern of hotel changes and discreet meetings during the NCP visit has only fueled speculation.

“Why are you creating room for doubt in people’s minds? You could openly declare your plans and interactions with diplomats. Why the need for concealment?” he asked.

In the same briefing, Rizvi praised the interim government’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus for declaring national elections before next Ramadan.

“He has respected the people’s will. This announcement is not just political—it’s in response to public aspiration,” he said.

Rizvi described the interim government as neutral, preparatory, and revolutionary, aimed at ensuring a transition to democracy. He also said the Election Commission has already been instructed to begin the election process.

During the visit, Rizvi handed over a financial donation to Masuma Begum’s husband, Mohammad Selim, and informed the family that BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman would sponsor the education of their son, Abdullah, a sixth grader at Diabari School.

BNP leaders present included Atiqur Rahman, Ashraf Uddin, Abul Kashem, Moksedul Momin, Masud Rana, Mustakim Billah, Shakil Ahmed, and Farhad Ali Sojib. Others included SM Jahangir (BNP Dhaka North), Jamil Hossain (former VP, Chhatra Dal), Hasnain Nahiyan, Moshiur Rahman, Wakil Hossain, Rubel Hossain (DU), and Abdullah Al Misbah (Dhaka College).
