In the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, there is a suggestion to reduce the price of chocolate. On Thursday, June 6, Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali presented the new fiscal year`s proposed budget in the National Parliament.
The Finance Minister stated, "There have been allegations that declaring chocolate products as food supplements has led to a tendency for duty evasion. To curb this false declaration trend, the supplementary duty on chocolate can be reduced from 45% to 20%. This will reduce the existing tax burden on chocolate from 127.72% to 89.32%."
The proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 is Tk 7,97,000 crore, which is Tk 36,000 crore more than the previous fiscal year (2023-24). The current fiscal year`s budget was Tk 7,61,000 crore.
The theme of this proposed budget is "Commitment to Building a Happy, Prosperous, Developed, and Smart Bangladesh."
