In a tense situation on Tuesday, January 7, a group of over a hundred students from Prime Asia University clashed with police officers outside the Secretariat’s Gate 1 in Dhaka.
The students were protesting for nine key demands, including the resignation of the Trustee Board Chairman and the establishment of a permanent campus for their university.
The protest began around 2:30 PM when the students gathered in front of the National Press Club for a sit-in, staying there for roughly 30 minutes.
Afterward, they moved towards the Education Ministry building to continue their protest.
While a four-member delegation from the university entered the building to meet with the Education Advisor, the students outside found themselves in a heated argument with the police.
In an attempt to control the situation, the police used baton charges and, to further manage the crowd, fired two rounds of blank shots.
This incident has raised concerns over student protests and their treatment by authorities.
