In the wake of a fire at the Secretariat, Asif Mahmud Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, has issued a strong warning to those who may be involved in a conspiracy to derail government efforts.
Asif Mahmud took to Facebook on Thursday morning to deliver his message. In his post, he stated,
"We have been investigating past embezzlement and corruption within the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives. Evidence was uncovered showing the misappropriation of several thousand crores of taka. The full extent of the damage caused by the fire is still unknown."
He further emphasized, "Anyone involved in this conspiracy to make us fail will not be spared. I am currently in Nilphamari and will be returning to Dhaka as soon as possible."
The fire broke out at 1:52 AM on Thursday at Building 7 of the Secretariat.
Within minutes, the Secretariat`s own Fire Service unit began efforts to contain the blaze.
As the fire intensified, 19 additional Fire Service units joined the operation. After 6 hours of continuous effort, the fire was brought under control at 8:05 AM.
This incident has raised concerns about potential foul play as the investigation into corruption was underway.
The advisor`s firm warning suggests that the government will take a tough stance against anyone involved in attempts to disrupt their work.
