Cop loses left hand during arrest drive in Ctg

A police constable's left hand was seperated from the elbow when an accused hacked him with a sharp weapon during an arrest drive in Chattogram's Lohagara upazila.

 

The injured constable, Jony Khan, was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

 

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station, Atiqur Rahman, confirmed the matter and said that doctors referred Jony to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in Dhaka for better treatment. 

 

The OC said the incident happened in Padua area on Sunday morning after a police team went there to arrest Akbar, an accused in a case filed over land dispute.

 

At one stage of the drive, Akbar hacked Constable Jony with a sharp weapon, leaving his hand severed from the elbow and managed to flee the spot.

 

Police were trying to arrest Akbar till filing the news at 5pm on Sunday.
