Dr Md Ekhlas Uddin, a veteran Awami League leader of Chattogram north district unit and a freedom fighter, died at a hospital in the port city on Monday. He was 85.
He was the former vice president of the AL north district unit.
Freedom fighter AKM Sarowar Kamal Dulu, elder brother of Ekhlas, his brother, who had been suffering from cancer for long, breathed his last at a private hospital in the city around 9:30 am.
He will be buried at family graveyard in Paschim Bahrampur village under Baraiyar Dala union in Sitakunda upazila after two namaz-Janazas on Monday.
He performed duty as an in-charge at Harina Medical Camp in Harirampur upazila of Manikganj during the Liberation War of the country.
After the country’s freedom, he joined private ‘Chattogram Chemical Complex’ as chief physician and worked there for 28 years.
He left behind five daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
Different political and social organisations expressed deep sorrow and shock at the death of the freedom fighter.
