A case has been filed against Muhammad Tabibur Rahman, the former officer-in-charge and assistant forest curator of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park at Sreepur in the district of Gazipur.
The park’s current officer-in-charge on Thursday night filed the case under the Animal Welfare Act.
Sreepur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuiyan confirmed the news to the Report.live.
Inspector Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuiyan said allegations of irregularities in government work, mismanagement in park supervision, devastation of property, irregularities and corruption have been brought against Tabibur Rahman in connection with the death of 11 zebras in the park.
It is alleged that eleven zebras, a tiger and a lioness have died in the park due to those reasons.
Rafiqul Islam, the park's current officer-in-charge, told the reporters that 11 zebras had died at the safari park last January in this current year. During that time Tabibur Rahman, the officer-in-charge, did not notify the senior officials about the death news of animals in time.
The officer-in-charge went on saying that Tabibur Rahman did not even make a general diary (GD) of the zebra's death at the concerned police station. Moreover, the statement given by Tabibur Rahman about cutting the stomachs of three zebras was not acceptable.
In this situation, besides the loss of state resources, cruel conduct has been imposed to those wild animals. This is why a case has been filed against the accused under the Animal Welfare Act.
