In a recent report from the Indian media outlet Economic Times, it was revealed that India has decided not to return Sheikh Hasina, the president of Bangladesh‍‍`s Awami League and former Prime Minister, despite a formal request from Bangladesh‍‍`s interim government.

India‍‍`s decision not to send Sheikh Hasina back seems to be based on geopolitical factors.

According to the report, India believes that agreeing to return Sheikh Hasina would send the wrong message to its neighboring countries.

Sources close to high-level officials have stated that, despite pressure from Bangladesh‍‍`s current government led by Muhammad Yunus, India is not rushing to make a decision on the matter.

Instead, the request will be thoroughly reviewed, and it may take several months before a final decision is made.

The report highlights that Sheikh Hasina has worked to protect India’s interests, taken action against extremists, and strengthened regional cooperation with India.

Given these contributions, India is expected to take its time in considering the request. Additionally, under the India-Bangladesh extradition agreement, political requests like this one are not covered.

Sources also pointed out that if Sheikh Hasina were to return to Bangladesh, it could lead to a risky and uncertain situation for her.

Political analysts believe that the issue is complex and will take time to resolve.

India has a long history of providing refuge to guests, including Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.

This is not the first time Sheikh Hasina has been in India; after her father‍‍`s assassination in 1975, she was also exiled there.

Political experts say that her presence in India could boost the morale of the Awami League as they prepare to re-enter political activity.
