A sudden fire broke out at the cargo village area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday (October 18) around 2:15 PM, authorities have confirmed. Following the incident, flight operations were temporarily halted as a precautionary measure.
A total of 28 fire service units rushed to the spot to bring the blaze under control. They were later joined by the airport’s own fire section and the Bangladesh Air Force fire unit. Combined efforts are currently underway to fully extinguish the flames.
According to airport sources, the affected section of the cargo village mainly stores imported goods and materials. However, the cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be determined.
Authorities have clarified that the airport’s main operations remain unaffected, and all domestic and international flights are running normally.
Once the fire is completely extinguished, a detailed investigation report will be released, the airport authority said, urging all personnel to remain alert and cautious for safety reasons.
