Eid holiday extended to 7 days

Government Declares March 18 as Additional Holiday Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr

The government has declared March 18 an additional public holiday, along with previously announced holidays, to ensure smoother travel for people returning home for Eid-ul-Fitr.

The decision was approved during a cabinet meeting held on Thursday at the Secretariat and chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, where the proposal was presented and endorsed.

As a result, government employees will effectively receive a seven-day holiday for Eid this year.

According to the official holiday calendar, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be observed on March 21, which will be a public holiday. In addition, March 19 and 20, as well as March 22 and 23, had already been designated as holidays by executive order—two days before and two days after Eid—bringing the total Eid break to five days.

Earlier, March 17 (Tuesday) was already scheduled as a public holiday for Shab-e-Qadr.

With the newly approved holiday on March 18, government employees will now enjoy seven consecutive days off surrounding Eid-ul-Fitr.
