Miscreants set fire to a Grameen Bank office on PTI Road in Kushtia district headquarters on Saturday night by pouring petrol.
The blaze damaged parts of the signboard and balcony grill, but documents and other materials inside the office remained largely unaffected.
The office is situated near the residence of Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, who has been absconding since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 last year. Bank officer Biplob Das told reporters on Sunday morning that valuables and documents inside the office were mostly safe.
Officer-in-Charge Mosharraf Hossain of Kushtia Sadar Police Station said the incident is under investigation and assured that those responsible would be arrested.
