A fire occurred in the engine room of the Brahmaputra Express leaving from Kamalapur in Dhaka for Jamalpur.
However, this is not a sabotage, said the Railway Police.
Wednesday, December 20, around 6:45 p.m., the incident happened. Afterwards, the fire was put out when the train came to a stop at the Cantonment station.
Dhaka Railway Police SP Anwar Hossain verified the information around 7 pm.
"In the Brahmaputra Express`s engine compartment, a jute sack was resting above the engine silencer pipe. It was blocking the silencer pipe`s ability to release smoke. The jute sack caught fire from the smoke," he stated.
As soon as the railway police realized the matter, they put out the fire and stopped the train at the Cantonment station.
When asked whether it was sabotage or not, he said, we did not think it was sabotage. There were no casualities, he added.
