GD no longer required for retrieving lost NID

Citizens will no longer need to file a General Diary (GD) to recover their lost National Identity Card (NID), as the Election Commission (EC) has officially removed the requirement in a bid to ease public inconvenience.

Confirming the development on Thursday, ASM Humayun Kabir, Director General of the EC’s National Identity Registration Wing, said the move is aimed at reducing citizens’ hassle. He added that further initiatives are being planned to make NID services more accessible.

Over the past year, the NID registration wing has resolved nearly 950,000 pending applications for NID corrections.

According to the latest voter roll, Bangladesh has 126,307,504 registered voters—64,145,455 men, 62,205,819 women, and 1,230 hijra voters.
