Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan has alleged that efforts are underway to portray party chief Nurul Haque Nur as fully recovered, though he remains in critical condition following the recent attack.
Speaking to reporters at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday (September 4), Rashed Khan said Nur is still hospitalized with severe injuries. “He is in a critical state — blood is still coming from his nose, which has become more bent. He has head injuries, cannot walk, and is unable to open his mouth properly,” he claimed.
According to Rashed, the government has announced that Nur would be sent abroad for better treatment, and the health ministry has already been instructed in this regard. “But his condition has not improved. He is not fit to board a plane now. We have demanded that he be taken to Singapore for treatment, and if his health allows, he might be sent within a week,” he said.
He further alleged that despite media reports claiming Nur has recovered, the reality is otherwise. “I just visited him with doctors present. Clotted blood came out of his nose. The hospital director was immediately called, and further instructions for treatment were given. Yet the media keeps saying he is fine, which is not true,” Rashed added.
Describing Nur’s condition, he said, “He cannot speak, there are marks under his eyes, he is in severe gum pain, and he has brain injuries that are affecting his functions. He is in the same condition as before. The attack was carried out with intent to kill.”
Rashed Khan also claimed the attack has united people across the nation. “The Awami League’s organizational activities have been banned. Now the people demand that the Jatiya Party and the 14-party allies, who support fascism, must also be banned. Despite having video evidence, no action has been taken against the attackers. Without the home affairs adviser’s consent, such incidents cannot occur,” he said, demanding the adviser’s removal.
He warned that attempts to portray Nur as healthy would not deter demands for justice. “The attack must be investigated, the Jatiya Party should be banned, and those responsible must be brought to trial,” he said.
