Dengue claims 3 more lives in 24 hours, 363 hospitalized

Dengue has claimed three more lives in the past 24 hours, while 363 new patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest fatalities, the death toll from dengue this year has risen to 130. So far in 2025, a total of 33,309 patients have been hospitalized due to the mosquito-borne disease.

A health bulletin released by the DGHS’s Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room on Thursday (September 4) stated that of the three deaths reported in the last 24 hours, two were residents under Dhaka South City Corporation and one from Chattogram division.

Of the 363 new admissions, 88 were in Barishal division, 70 in Dhaka division, 56 under Dhaka North City Corporation, 56 under Dhaka South City Corporation, 50 in Chattogram division, 16 in Khulna, 16 in Rajshahi, 10 in Mymensingh, and one in Sylhet.

Monthly DGHS data shows 1,161 hospitalizations in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, 10,684 in July, 10,496 in August, and 1,833 so far in September.

Of the 130 deaths reported this year, 10 occurred in January, three in February, seven in April, three in May, 19 in June, 41 in July, 39 in August, and eight in September so far.

Bangladesh witnessed its worst dengue outbreak in 2023, when 321,179 patients were hospitalized. In comparison, there were 101,211 cases in 2024, 62,382 in 2022, 28,429 in 2021, 1,405 in 2020, and 101,354 in 2019.
