The Rajshahi University (RU) chapter of Chhatra Dal has expelled for life a student leader who referred to 91 students of July 36 Hall as “unpaid sex workers.” The announcement was made on Thursday (September 4) by the chapter’s office secretary, Nafiul Islam Jibon.
Earlier, the chapter had suspended the leader’s organizational posts and formed a two-member investigative committee to verify the allegations. The committee included Senior Vice President Shakilur Rahman Sohag and Senior Joint General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Shafik.
The Chhatra Dal chapter stated that the accused leader, Anisur Rahman Milon, repeatedly failed to provide satisfactory answers to the committee’s inquiries and hung up the phone. “This proves that the offensive comment was made intentionally,” the statement read. Consequently, Milon has been expelled from his position as hall vice president for life, as well as from the organization’s membership.
The controversy arose after RU’s July 36 Hall provost summoned 91 students without cause. In response, female Chhatra Dal leader Jannatul Naima Tuhina posted about the incident on her personal Facebook account, prompting Milon, vice president of Shah Makhdum Hall, to make the objectionable remark.
The statement further directs all party leaders and members to cut off any organizational contact with Milon. It also urges the university administration to take appropriate legal action against him under existing rules and regulations. The decision was made by RU Chhatra Dal President Sultan Ahmed Rahi and General Secretary Sardar Zahurul Islam.
Speaking on the expulsion, Sultan Ahmed Rahi said, “We are committed to upholding women’s rights and dignity. Chhatra Dal follows a zero-tolerance policy on bullying women. One of our male leaders made an offensive remark against a female leader, prompting the temporary suspension and the formation of an investigative committee.”
He added, “When the committee sought an explanation from him, he gave excuses and disconnected the call. This confirmed his guilt. Based on the committee’s report, he has been expelled for life. We have also requested the administration to take legal measures so that such acts of bullying, including online harassment, receive a strong deterrent message.”
