On Sunday afternoon, Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, made a statement at a discussion session at the National Press Club.
He emphasized the government`s commitment to ensuring responsible journalism in the new Bangladesh, where criticism of the government will be allowed.
Shafiqul Alam urged the media to focus on constructive criticism, noting that for the past 15 years, the public had been unable to freely express their opinions.
He revealed that a commission had been set up to guarantee press freedom, which is a key step toward making sure that the media can hold those in power accountable.
He added that the government is working towards a society where everyone is free to speak up.
According to Alam, both the opinions of political parties and the general public are essential in shaping the country`s future.
In his speech, Shafiqul Alam also made a serious accusation against the Awami League government.
He alleged that 160 people were killed during the Shapla Chattar incident, and claimed the government used the fabricated story of Syedee being seen on the moon as a diversion to cover up the deaths.
