The government is set to withdraw all cases filed under the Cyber Security Act, according to a statement made by legal adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul.
He revealed this during a press conference organized by the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Dr. Nazrul assured that within the next two weeks, all cases under this law will be dismissed.
He further added that efforts are already underway to reform the controversial Cyber Security Act, with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology actively working on changes.
He also touched on another major issue, explaining that around 2,500 politically motivated cases—often referred to as "ghost cases"—have been identified in 25 districts across the country.
“Millions of people have been falsely implicated in these cases,” he said, adding that these cases will be withdrawn by February.
With these steps, the government aims to address growing concerns over the misuse of the law and politically motivated harassment.
