The government has cleared a major vaccine procurement plan worth Tk412.71 crore to support Bangladesh’s national immunisation programme and ensure a steady supply of essential vaccines during the 2025–26 fiscal year.

The approval was given by the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Wednesday.

Under the decision, vaccines will be procured through the United Nations Children‍‍`s Fund (UNICEF), which serves as the designated international procurement agency for the country‍‍`s Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI).

Officials said the Health Services Division submitted the proposal seeking permission for direct procurement through UNICEF to meet the vaccine requirements of the nationwide immunisation campaign.

The vaccines will be used to protect children and other eligible groups from a range of preventable diseases covered under the EPI programme.

After reviewing the proposal, the committee endorsed the purchase under the direct procurement method, citing UNICEF’s established role in supplying vaccines for public health programmes.

Authorities expect the initiative to help maintain uninterrupted vaccination services across the country and support ongoing efforts to strengthen disease prevention through routine immunisation.
