The wage for temporary daily workers at government offices is set to rise by up to Tk 225 from the next fiscal year.

From Jul 1, a day labourer will receive a maximum wage of Tk 800 per day for doing government work, up from Tk 575-Tk 600 per day currently, reports bdnews24.com.

The Regulation Wing of the Ministry of Finance issued a circular in this regard on Thursday.

The circular says that the government revised the wage rate of temporary workers employed on a daily basis for urgent work in different ministries, divisions, agencies, offices, state-owned institutions and autonomous institutions as per the “Daily-Based Temporary Workers Employment Policy, 2025”.

  • The wage of a worker in the Dhaka and Chattogram City Corporation areas will be Tk 800. Currently, the wage of a regular skilled worker employed by the city authorities stands at Tk 600, while the wage of an irregular unskilled worker was Tk 575.

  • The daily wage of a worker in divisional towns and other city corporation areas will be Tk 750, up from Tk 550 to Tk 600. The wage has been increased by Tk 150 to Tk 200 per day.

  • The government fixed the wage of a regular skilled and irregular unskilled worker in the districts and Upazila areas at Tk 700. Until now, the wage of a regular skilled worker was Tk 550, and Tk 500 for an irregular unskilled worker. Here too, the wage is increasing by Tk 150 to Tk 200.

The circular also mentioned some conditions. These include compliance with the “Daily Temporary Worker Employment Policy, 2025” in terms of employment of workers, payment of wages and ensuring a suitable working environment, along with other instructions.

An appropriate authority must approve the number of workers and the expenditure (needed for daily-based workers) must be met from the budget allocation in favour of the concerned ministry, division, directorate, office, and other organisation.

Monthly workers cannot be hired at the daily wage rate mentioned above. In case of any irregularities, the authority paying the bill will be responsible, and all financial rules and regulations must be followed properly in this regard.
