The government has held a meeting with leaders of various employee organizations who are protesting for the repeal of the Government Service Ordinance.
The meeting began around 2:45 PM on Tuesday (May 27) in the conference room of the Ministry of Land, chaired by Land Secretary A.S.M. Saleh Ahmed. Five other secretaries also participated.
Representatives from different protesting employee organizations, two to three from each group, joined the meeting at the Secretariat.
Amid ongoing protests by the employees at the Secretariat, Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid held an emergency meeting Tuesday morning with several secretaries.
During the meeting, it was decided to form a committee to review the Government Service Ordinance.
The responsibility to engage with the employee leaders was assigned to the Land Secretary.
Md. Badiul Kabir, co-chairman of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum and president of a faction of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers-Employees Joint Council, said before the meeting that if the discussion with the secretaries is fruitful, they would consider withdrawing the protest program.
