Prime Minister’s adviser on labour and employment Mahdi Amin on Thursday said the government is giving strong focus to workers’ welfare, job creation and workplace safety.

He made the remarks at a May Day discussion at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.

The adviser said workers play a key role in the country’s growth, contributing to sectors like industry, agriculture and infrastructure.

He said the government is working to improve living standards through labour-friendly policies, skill development and social protection programmes.

Mahdi Amin added that ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions and respect for workers is a basic duty of any responsible government.

He said steps are being taken to create more jobs, improve training and ensure safety at workplaces.

The adviser also mentioned ongoing efforts to protect migrant workers and introduce new support measures, including worker cards.

He said Bangladesh has committed to global labour standards by adopting several conventions of the International Labour Organization.

Mahdi Amin expressed hope that these efforts will help build a more stable and prosperous economy, with workers at the centre of development.
