An army team has started rescue operations in the five-storeyed building that exploded in Siddiqbazar near the BRTC bus counter in the capital's Gulistan. Deputy Director of Fire Services Deenmani Sharma confirmed the matter to TheReport.live.
He said, we suspended the rescue work around 11:15 on Tuesday night. At that time we checked and found that the basement of the building was severely damaged due to the explosion. As a result, the building is in a dangerous condition and may collapse at any time. It is very risky to carry out a rescue operation in the building in this situation.”
Rescue work is underway. Army, RAB, Police, Fire Service, Bomb Disposal Unit are present at the spot. It is believed that they are pressed into the basement. The fire service is trying to enter the basement.
The fire service official also said that the rescue work started on Wednesday morning under the leadership of army personnel. Army personnel will temporarily stabilize the building. Once the building is stabilized, we will resume rescue operations. We will basically conduct the raid in the basement of the building.”
Meanwhile, the death toll in the capital's Gulistan explosion has risen to 19. Hundreds were injured in this incident. This information has been confirmed to the media from Dhaka Medical College (DMH) Hospital. It is feared that the death toll may increase.
On the other hand, the bodies of 16 of those killed in the blast have been handed over to their families. Senior Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka District Administration Subir Kumar Das told the media that the dead bodies were handed over till 2 o'clock on Tuesday.
