Helena Jahangir has placed on 3-day remand in a case filed over spreading propaganda and controversial information on social media platform about different government bodies and officials.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order on Friday (July 30) night.
Earlier, the expelled Awami Leauge leader was handed over to Gulshan police station around 5:30pm Friday and later was taken to the CMM court in Dhaka.
Police sought 5-day remand; however, the court granted 3-day remand conducting hearing.
Helena Jahangir was detained during a drive of Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday night.
Illegal foreign liquor, currencies, walky-talkies, casino materials, deerskin and kangaroo hide were recovered from her Gulshan Residence.
Later on Friday, Rab said five cases will be lodged against Helena Jahangir under narcotics control act, digital security act, special power act, wildlife act and telecommunication act.
Helena Jahangir was a member of Women Affairs subcommittee of the ruling Awami League.
She was expelled from the post on 17 January. A press release on Sunday signed by the ruling party's women affairs secretary Meher Afroz Chumki said Helena has been relieved from her membership of the subcommittee as her recent activities in social media were in the violation of the organisation's policy.
Helena was criticised for a Facebook post announcing recruitment of leaders for an organisation named “Bangladesh Awami Chakrijibi League".
