As many as 5 cases will be filed against detained Helena Jahangir, who has been expelled from the ruling Awami League recently.
The cases will be filed under various acts. Besides, the Joyjatra TV that belongs to Helena has been sealed as it has no documents.
Director of Rab’s Legal and Media wing Khandaker Al Moin disclosed the information while briefing to newsmen at Kurmitola in the capital on Friday (July 30).
“Five cases will be lodged against Helena Jahangir under the narcotics control act, digital security act, special power act, wildlife (conservation and security) act and telecommunication act,” Moin said.
The media director said, Helena Jahangir has been operating an IP TV channel without approval of proper authority. She was reportedly collecting extortion in the name of appointing district correspondent.
“The office of the IP TV at Mirpur in the city has been sealed. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) seized the broadcasting equipment,” he furthered.
Earlier, the Rapid Action Battalion launched a drive at Helena Jahangir’s Gulshan residence on Thursday night. Foreign liquor and currencies, deerskin and kangaroohide, casino equipment and walky-talkies were recovered during the 4 hours long raid.
Helena was taken to the Rab headquarters around 12:30 Thursday night.
Helena Jahangir was a member of Women Affairs subcommittee of the ruling Awami League.
She was expelled from the post on 17 January. A press release on Sunday signed by the ruling party's women affairs secretary Meher Afroz Chumki said Helena has been relieved from her membership of the subcommittee as her recent activities in social media were in the violation of the organisation's policy.
Helena was criticised for a Facebook post announcing recruitment of leaders for an organisation named “Bangladesh Awami Chakrijibi League".
