High-level committee to review objections to public service ordinance

The government is set to form a high-level advisory committee to review objections raised by employees regarding the newly introduced Public Service Ordinance.

The decision was confirmed on Tuesday following the submission of a memorandum by leaders of the Secretariat Employees‍‍` Unity Forum.

According to Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, there are significant concerns among public employees about the ordinance, and the government is open to addressing them.

“We are fully prepared to listen to their objections sincerely. A high-level committee at the advisory level will be formed to hear, evaluate, and make recommendations based on those concerns,” he said.

The committee is expected to be established within the next day or two. Its findings and suggestions will be presented to the Advisory Council for further discussion and action.

Nazrul emphasized the government‍‍`s commitment to approaching the issue from a humanitarian perspective.

“If I am included in the committee, I will do my best to listen to their arguments and bring them to the attention of the Advisory Council,” he added.

In response to concerns about possible misuse of the ordinance, the law adviser acknowledged that such risks exist. “Any scope for misuse is not desirable. The committee is being formed precisely to understand and address such issues properly.”

Employee representatives have warned of tougher protests after Eid-ul-Azha if their demand to repeal the ordinance is not met. When asked about the threat of demonstrations, the adviser stated, “That is their decision.”
