Ice cream, soft drink prices increasing

In the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, it has been suggested that the existing supplementary duty on all types of ice cream be increased from 5% to 10%.

This proposal was made by Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali while presenting the proposed budget for the new fiscal year in the National Parliament on Thursday, June 6.

Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali stated, “I propose to increase the existing supplementary duty on all types of ice cream from 5% to 10%. I also propose to increase the existing supplementary duty on carbonated beverages from 25% to 30%.”

The size of the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 is Tk 7,97,000 crore, which is Tk 36,000 crore more than the previous fiscal year (2023-24). The current fiscal year‍‍`s budget size was Tk 7,61,000 crore.

The theme of this proposed budget is ‘Commitment to Build a Happy, Prosperous, Developed, and Smart Bangladesh’.
