2 dead after private car catches fire following collision with road divider

In Dhaka’s Mohakhali area, a fast-moving private car collided with a road divider near the Mohakhali flyover, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Two occupants of the car died in the incident, while a third person was injured. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

The accident occurred around 2:20 am on Friday (August 8), according to Sub-Inspector Md. Siddiq Hossain of Banani Police Station.

He stated that the car struck the road divider forcefully just before entering the flyover, triggering the fire.

Local bystanders rescued two people from the burning vehicle and rushed them to Kurmitola General Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

One victim died overnight at DMCH, while the other passed away at Kurmitola Hospital. The deceased’s bodies were later transferred to DMCH for autopsy.

Siddiq Hossain estimated the ages of the deceased to be between 45 and 50 years. The injured person’s current hospital admission details remain unknown. Authorities are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the victims and investigate the incident.

Inspector Md. Faruk of the DMCH Police Outpost confirmed that the bodies are kept at the DMCH morgue and their autopsies will be conducted soon.
