The press secretary to the chief adviser, Shafiqul Alam, has shared that the interim government is planning to hold talks with political parties soon about creating the July Declaration.
He mentioned that the government is already giving this declaration a lot of attention, and hopes it will reflect the expectations of all political groups.
Shafiqul Alam spoke during a briefing held on Sunday (January 5) at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Talking about the efforts to bring back Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh, Alam said, “The interim government will do everything in its power to bring Hasina back. If they are unable to do so, the next government will continue these efforts. This is what the nation wants, and it’s our responsibility to make it happen.”
He further added,
“Once Sheikh Hasina is brought back, she will have to face justice. The list of her wrongdoings is endless. This includes the BDR killings, the Shapla Chattar killings, and the violence that followed the death sentence for Abdul Quader Mollah, as well as many instances of abductions and murders. She is also responsible for the ‘night vote’ and other serious crimes.”
Alam also pointed out that just like the killers of Sheikh Hasina’s father were brought back from other countries, Hasina herself must be brought back in the same way.
On another issue, Shafiqul Alam addressed the ongoing investigation into the 2012 murders of journalists Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi.
“A task force was formed in November to investigate this case, and recently I have spoken to 25-30 new individuals. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is working hard on this case, and I am hopeful that they will be able to achieve good results with all the effort they are putting in,” he said.
