The court sentenced six people to death and four to life imprisonment for the gang-rape of a college girl in Singra Upazila of Natore. Besides, each of the convicts has been fined one lakh taka.
At around 11:30 on Wednesday, Judge Abdur Rahim of NATO Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal announced the verdict.
Advocate Nazmul Haque was in the hearing of the case for the accused. On the other hand, the court's Special Public Counsel (SPP) Advocate Anisur Rahman was the prosecutor. The prosecutor lawyer confirmed the verdict to the media.
The convicts who got life imprisonment are - Md. Monirul Islam, Md. Khairul Islam, Ataul Islam, Md. Rezaul Karim. The entire amount of the fine has been directed to be paid to the victim.
According to the complaint, in 2012, the girl was studying in class 11 in a government college in Rajshahi. On October 19 of the same year, she left home due to urgent work at the college. At that time, based on previous identity Sabbir Ahmed the son of Mostafizur Rahman of Dhanaidah village of Baraigram upazila, lured her and took her to Kalam Mirzapur village of upazila with the help of other accused. Later, Sabbir Ahmed and other accused gang-raped the college girl at around 9:30 pm.
Later, when a case was filed against 11 people on charges of kidnapping and gang-rape, the court acquitted one person named Anisur Rahman and sentenced 10 others after long testimony. During the announcement of the verdict, Sabbir Ahmed, Razibul Hasan and acquitted Nasir were absconding.
