On Independence Day, the mural at the Liberation War Memorial Stage on BDR Road in Lalmonirhat city was covered with cloth.
Lalmonirhat District Commissioner HM Rokib Haider confirmed the news to BBC.
However, he declined to provide any further details on the matter.
According to the district administration, the mural was covered due to demands from the "Anti-Discrimination Student Movement" and local students and citizens, as reported by BBC Bangla.
However, local reporters stated that no protests or processions demanding such action were seen from the "Anti-Discrimination Student Movement" or "local students and citizens" before Independence Day.
They also reported that no renovation work is currently taking place at the site.
As a result, no explanation has been provided by the district administration regarding why the mural was covered.
The long mural in Lalmonirhat depicts the 1952 Language Movement, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s March 7 speech, the formation of the Mujibnagar Government, the broadcast of the "Chorompotro" (radio message), the 1971 genocide, Commander-in-Chief of the Liberation Forces General MAG Osmani, freedom fighters celebrating victory, jubilant citizens waving flags, the seven Bir Sreshtho (the highest gallantry award recipients), and the surrender of the Pakistani forces.
