Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, has confirmed that the election process is now backed by a very clear roadmap. “What could be a clearer roadmap than this?” he said.
According to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, elections are expected to happen between December 2025 and June 30, 2026.
However, Alam clarified that the Election Commission will announce the exact dates. This was shared during a press briefing held on Tuesday, December 17, at the Foreign Service Academy.
In addition, Alam discussed concerns regarding corruption in the education sector.
He highlighted that a significant amount of bribery is taking place in the transfers and promotions within schools and colleges, especially under the Ministry of Education.
He assured the public that the interim government is committed to eliminating such corruption and making improvements to the education system.
When asked whether an Education Commission would be set up, Alam mentioned that it`s too early to say but emphasized that the government has already taken urgent steps.
The textbooks for Class Nine and Class Ten will be updated and modernized, he explained.
Alam further noted that the University Grants Commission will be replaced with a new body focused solely on overseeing universities, without handling grants or funding.
The government also plans to make significant improvements in ICT education to meet international standards.
He stressed that although the previous government invested in many unnecessary projects, education was not given enough attention.
He reassured that the current government would be increasing funding for the education sector.
